Introducing Zippy Shell Portable Self Storage

So... just what is this new Zippy Shell?  Who are they and what do they offer?  What makes them different than Uncle Bob’s or Public Storage or the self storage facility in town?  What makes them different than PODS or MyWay or U-Box?  Since Zippy Shell is so new, these are all good questions that need to be answered.  In this post we will explain what Zippy Shell does and what they don’t do.  In future posts we will compare Zippy Shell to traditional self storage providers and to each of the other portable self storage providers.  Hopefully this will give you the information you need to make an educated decision about your storage and moving needs.

WHAT SERVICES THEY PROVIDE
SELF STORAGE
First and foremost, Zippy Shell is in the business of providing storage.  You might call it self storage.  If you have belongings that you cannot store at your home or business, Zippy Shell will store those things safely for you, for a month, for 3 months, or for 6 years.

PORTABLE STORAGE
A portion of the self storage market is considered portable because the storage unit itself is mobile rather than being a locker inside a fixed building.  In other words the storage unit can be brought directly to your home or business.  You place your things in the unit while it is merely feet from your door.  When the unit is full, it will be picked up and returned to a secure storage warehouse for safe keeping.  This is a level of convenience that traditional self storage buildings cannot offer.  Zippy Shell provides this type of portable self storage to Grand Rapids and the surrounding West Michigan area.

MOVING
Zippy Shell might not be considered a moving company as you would generally think of moving companies.  They don’t have people to pack up your stuff and put it into big trucks to move you across the country.  However, if you are in transition and moving within the West Michigan area, Zippy Shell can be a very economical way to move your belongings.  Since the storage unit comes to you for loading, it can obviously be delivered to your new home, effectively “moving” your things.  If you need some time in between moving out and moving in, Zippy Shell can economically store your stuff while you are in that transition.  Zippy Shell can help you "self move" across town and can provide storage in that transition if needed.

HOW ZIPPY SHELL OPERATES
We have already established the fact that Zippy Shell provides portable self storage.  But you might be wondering how exactly they do that.  You have probably seen the early generations of portable storage providers who essentially bring a box to your home.  Those boxes might be made of metal, or plywood or plastic.  Some have tarps over them to make them more weather resistant.  Some of those boxes are delivered in a level manner and some are tipped up to 17 degrees like a big garbage dumpster when they are dropped in your driveway.  Some are big and some are small.  We will go into more detail about the other providers and how they compare to Zippy Shell in future posts.

Zippy Shell provides a storage unit contained within a cargo trailer.  The trailer is a modern, high tech steel trailer that is completely water tight and secure.  It is made of steel.  It has water tight doors.  It has an anti-theft alarm system.  And it has a system that allows storage units to be moved in and out of the trailer at the storage warehouse.  The storage units are made of galvanized steel.  They are approximately 15 feet long, 7 feet wide and 7 feet tall and offer over 100 square feet of storage space.  Zippy Shell delivers this trailer, called a “shell” with the storage unit inside to your home or business and leaves the shell and unit for you to load.  When you are finished, they will return and deliver the shell to the heated and secure warehouse where your storage unit will be removed and placed into storage.  When you want your things back, Zippy Shell will reverse the process and deliver the shell and your unit back to you, whether that’s the same place you started or a new location across town.

Zippy Shell also offers moving and packing supplies such as boxes, tape, dollies, blankets and so on.  They also offer a property protection option to further insure your valuables.  And they even offer assistance loading and unloading your storage unit.

Now to answer some other questions you may have.  Zippy Shell cannot provide a long term leave behind storage unit.  They believe your things should be stored inside safe and secure.  Zippy Shell cannot allow you to move or transport the shell and unit yourself.  Zippy Shell does not offer trailer towing services.
